This exhibition brings together work from artists who explore the urban and respond to the idea of DOWNTOWN - the core of a city and its creative heart, a melting pot of diverse communities living life on the street - with specific relation to the downtown of Kingston, Jamaica. The exhibition features new collages created by Jenny Gordon, photographs and film stills by Whitty Gordon Projects from their work in Kingston, Jamaica; and a collection of images illustrating the story of The Four Aces Club in Dalston through flyers, posters and photographs, collated by Winstan Whitter.
The artists whose work is shown in DOWNTOWN have been influenced by Jamaican music, the presence of Jamaican culture in London and its vibrant history which has been brought over from one urban hub to be recreated and reinvented in another.
